The San Diego Zoo is proud to partner with Polar Bears International (PBI) in research projects and outreach programs to help preserve polar bears. This alliance establishes San Diego as the headquarters for a far-reaching conservation program called Arctic Ambassadors. Under the guidance of this program, zoos throughout the world help educate and inspire millions of people by establishing Arctic Ambassador Centers. The shared goal of studying and protecting polar bears and connecting people to the Arctic will hopefully be accomplished while the threatened great ice bear still has time to recover.
PBI and the San Diego Zoo continue to work together on conservation-driven research projects illuminating poorly understood aspects of polar bear reproduction, sensory ecology, mother-cub behavior, and cub development, as well as how these systems are impacted by human disturbance and a changing environment.
