I know this post is a little late, but I'm trying to catch up on all the blogs! What an interesting story. I have no real knowledge about the spectacled bears. Absolutely amazing that they eat the posayo tree. Who would have ever thought that a bear would actually eat a tree though I am sure it would not be their first choice?! What an adaptation. Thank you for writing such an interesting story, Ron.

Awesome story! It is amazing to see how resourceful the spectacled bears are. If only us humans could get by on the minimum resources that we really need, instead of being driven by overconsumption!

Love your report, it's so descriptive - it's as if we are right there with you! It is very interesting to hear what these bears eat, it's similar in a way to the panda that eats bamboo to sustain itself. We always assume that bears are carnivores, yet here is another one that eats vegetation to survive. No doubt their systems have also adapted to aid in digestion of bark as the pandas has for bamboo.

What an amazing adventure you are having, Ron! I hope you get to see the male ascending and more of these wonderful bears. Are you hoping to work with villagers to find a way for them to grow yet co-exist with the bears? I'm looking forward to hearing more of your adventures!
