Intern Chelsi’s Profile

Born in Vancouver, Canada, moved to San Diego, lived on a yacht in the South Pacific, then back to sunny San Diego. Some people wouldn’t believe it. People usually call me Chelsi. I’m a senior at a high school in San Diego. I love horseback riding, sailing, modeling, and hip-hop dancing. I live with my mom, I have an older sister, and my dad lives on his yacht around the South Pacific. I also have a dog named Ulysses.
My whole life I have lived on or around the ocean. While living in the South Pacific, I learned a lot about different cultures and ways of living, which relates to expanding my knowledge on species. My family, close friends, and boyfriend are my life. I know they have my back and I have theirs. I always love helping out people and doing the most of what I can to help others. I make the best out of what I have in front of me.
What really floats my boat about the Zoo InternQuest internship is learning about the amazing variety of species and how they live, reproduce, and keep themselves alive. All my life I have wanted to help animals without homes. I’ve thought about it, and the conclusion is that I don’t have enough room for all the wild and non-wild animals! When I grow up, I would like to be involved with Sea World, the San Diego Zoo, or the Wild Animal Park. Being at one of these places daily would solve the issue of not having enough room at my house for all that amuse and fascinate me. I am also interested in modeling, which includes runway, digital photography, fashion, and lots of other elements that reflect our world. Obviously I am anti-fur in the fashion industry and would like to find a way to merge these two worlds into something that helps the planet.Â
Growing up I have had several different kinds of animal friends that lived with me, including a miniature horse that would spend time in the garage. I have had some kind of connection with every animal that I have ever had. What drew me into this program are the incredible resources at the San Diego Zoo in terms of staff people and researchers, support that the Zoological Soicety of San Diego (ZSSD) gives to help species. Who knows what this experience will unveil to me as I learn more about the animals and the work of the ZSSD.

Thanks for introducing yourself, Chelsi. Like you, I have always wished I could help save homeless animals, or wild animals in need. You have come up with a great solution to your space and ” love” challenge by working around it with your career. Best wishes on your future plans to be involved with Sea World, San Diego Zoo, or Wild Animal Park daily.
