A New Home for Cairo
Posted at 8:05 am April 28, 2006 by Marcia Redding
Many of you have expressed concern about Cairo, the Italian mastiff puppy, and how her life has changed since losing her buddy, Koza the lion cub. I am pleased to report that she is happy and thriving in her new home with one of our animal care managers. She has one half of an acre to play in, with oak trees, grass, and rocks to climb on.

The best news of all is that Cairo is getting along famously with her new buddy, a six-year-old American bulldog named Ike. Ike lost his canine companion about five months ago and was badly in need of a playmate. Cairo is just as valuable to a lonely bulldog as she was for a solitary lion cub. We will all remember and appreciate the contribution Cairo made as a companion for Koza. She helped make his short life busy and happy, and full of fun and play.
Here’s to Cairo and her new forever home – we’ll never forget her!

Thank you, Marcia, for answering the many concerns voiced about Cairo. It’s wonderful to know she has a new, happy home with another buddy to play with. It’s also great to see you back on the ‘blogs!

Thanks for the update on Cairo, Marcia. I’m glad she’s been able to help Ike get over the loss of his companion – and I’m sure Ike’s been a godsend for Cairo, too. She’s a very special animal and, like Koza, loved by many. Please thank the animal care manager for us, ok? He/she is a special person for taking in our sweet Cairo. And maybe they could offer up a blog or two occasionally on Cairo and Ike’s antics – that would be fun.
Thanks again.

Here come the tears again… but this time they are happy ones. Thanks for the update – I’m so happy that Cairo has a new home and playmate – Ike’s one lucky dog to have a new friend like her.

It seems so fitting that Cairo, who was rescued from New Orleans, should become a rescuer herself. I wish her a long and happy life with her new friend.
Thank you, Marcia, for letting us know….

Hello,
Just returned from an anniversary trip in Maui and was VERY saddened to learn about the death of our favorite cubby named Koza. ALL of us were hoping this beautiful cub would grow up and be able to become a parent someday. His life was too short, and it makes me sad to hear of his death.

Rest in peace, Koza. Your good buddy Cairo has found a very good new home and companion, Ike.
Thanks, Marcia, for letting us know. And thanks, too, to the Animal Care Manager.

Thanks Marcia…this update is very comforting, a bright note at the end of a sad story. I’m so happy for sweet Cairo…and for Ike. Cairo is a born healer… My wishes for her are the same as yours, Pamela G…for them to have a long, healthy and happy life.

Thanks, Marcia, for the update on Cairo. I knew she was going to the Animal Care Manager’s home so I knew she would be taken care of and loved. I am so glad she is with another animal that needed her help, just as she helped our beloved Koza. Sounds like she has a wonderful place to live her life and have a good time running around and playing with her new doggie friend and family….
Thanks for the update and hope to here more on Cairo at a later date.

I’m so happy for Cairo. May she live a long, healthy, happy life! How wonderful for Ike that he gets an experienced caregiver in Cairo. Like Cheryl said, the tears are back, but this time, they’re for a good reason.

As President of Operaion K9 Rescue, the nonprofit rescue that worked with the Wild Animal Park in placing our pup, Cairo, with Koza, we couldn’t be happier for the home she is in! She will be loved and bring lots of love. We brought Cairo’s mom, siblings and grandpa all into our rescue. Her mom and siblings are in fabulous homes and are so proud of Cairo! Her grandpa is still in need of a permanent home now that he has fully recovered after fighting for his life! We can’t wait to hear all the updates of Cairo’s new home and all her adventures. Thanks to everyone at the wild animal park for loving her and giving her this amazing experience.

Thank you, Marcia – it’s so wonderful to hear about our Cairo and her buddy, Ike, and to see pictures. Yes, it does bring tears of joy to my eyes, yet I still feel so brokenhearted about Koza. I never got a chance to meet him, but he melted my heart. It still seems so unreal that he is gone and it saddens me. Is that crazy to still feel that way?
Cairo is such a gift of God; she was just sent to this earth to make everyone’s lives a little richer…for Koza, for Ike and for all who know her and know of her. A little bit of Koza lives in Cairo. I, too, hope that you will keep us posted on occasion. And thank you to Andrea for filling us in on Cairo’s family. What wonderful news!! Thanks to all at Operation K9 and WAP – you are all so appreciated. Can you tell us more about Grampa? Where is he, how old is he? How can one adopt him?

Nancym Grannpa Chopper is doing great. He has been through so much and is such a regal dog. He is living in his foster home being spoiled and waiting for his forever home. If anyone is interested they can go to our site at http://www.operationk9rescue.com and fill out an application or email us with questions. He is such a special boy!

It has been almost a year since Cairo lost Koza? How are she and Ike doing? Happy and content as an inseparable pair we all hope. If so, prayers were answered.
