A Photo Caravan Adventure

But every now and then it’s nice to get out from behind our computers and get in touch with the animals that are so much a part of our Web site. We did just that by taking a Photo Caravan Safari tour at the San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park!

Employee Open House at CRES

 Debbie checks out the microscope in one of the CRES labsIt’s always fun to see where other people work and what they do, especially if they are fellow employees! So when the San Diego Zoo’s department of Conservation and Research for Endangered Species (CRES) held an open house in its new facility, it attracted almost 250 visitors: employees, their families and friends, and Zoo volunteers.

The Essence of a Species

 Po`ouli eye fibroblasts What may have been the last po’ouli died at the Maui Bird Conservation Center at 11:45 p.m. on November 26, 2004. As tragic as the loss of this species may be, its demise refocuses the importance of preserving and protecting its ” essence” for future study and reflection. This is being attempted through the process of cell culture and cryopreservation at the San Diego Zoo’s department of Conservation and Research for Endangered Species (CRES).
