Hi, Panda Fans!
For those who cannot attend Panda-Monium 2013 (see post, Panda-Monium, we’ve put together a way for you to feel a part of it and support the San Diego Zoo and our wonderful giant panda family at the same time. The fabulous San Diego Zoo Adoption Team has come up with another panda adoption package just for Panda-Monium 2013! For those of you who are new, the Adoption Team has been creating a special adoption package just for us for a couple of years now. The adoption is, of course, symbolic.
The special packages includes an animal fact sheet on giant pandas, panda photo, and a one-of-a-kind Panda-Monium 2013 personalized adoption certificate you can print. The photo you will receive in the download is our adorable cub, Xiao Liwu! The adoption package is just $35. All the monies collected go directly toward enrichment items for the animals at the San Diego Zoo.
This is the link to the special Panda-Monium 2013 Adoption package. The San Diego Zoo staff and animals really appreciate our support!!

UPDATE: Please know that Panda-Monium 2013 is sold out, and there are no more T-shirts available for the event. However, the San Diego Zoo is now taking reservations for our annual Black & White Overnight, which features our famous panda family! Adults-only night (for ages 21 and older) is Saturday, August 3; Family nights are offered Saturday, August 17 and August 24. More info here…

Sound fun.I wish I can go but I can”t drive there.
Can you tell me how many teeth Xiao Liwu has?
Panda Team responds: We’re not sure of the number of teeth he has. He doesn’t like when we look into his mouth long enough to count. He has most of them, as he likes to try and play-bite us.
As a panda watcher of the Atlanta Zoo, I am so very impressed with San Diegos pandas exhibit and web cam coverage. My wife and I have watched the last two ATL baby pandas grow and develop via web cam, but when the last panda (Po) was separated from his mother a couple of months ago, we have been so pleased that we can have our baby panda “fix” from your beautiful facility. Thank you.

Moderator’s note: We’re glad to help!
That is why H I H Bai Yun, and Sweet Daddy Gao Gao decided to have another one, just so us Pandaholics could have something to admire until you have another one, or two. Mr. Wu is certainly a cutie to be admired, and we hope to see you around and converse with you from time to time. You do know that most of us on this coast are a little bit nuts, don’t you?…love grammmie
There are plenty of us on this coast who are a bit nutty, too. California can’t have all of them.
We thank the Georgians for their thoughts and offer them the joy we have had with Mei Lan, Xi Lan and little PO. We all send kisses and hugs to our sweeties in Atlanta and everywhere, too, there is a black and white bear, bringing love and joy .
Thank you so much for the information! How nice that there is something for us panda lovers that are too far away to attend. Hopefully someday!
We hope that someday you find a way to visiting the Pandas really soon…love grammmie
I appreciate the opportunity to reach out and help even if I cannot make it to Panda-Monium 2013.
Thanks to all the staff at San Diego Zoo for working so hard!
Looking forward to getting the adoption package
I waited too long to send my registation in for the Panda-moium 2013 but sending my $35 in for the adoption program will make up for not being able to come the end of the month. I also adopted Mr Wu (I got my stuffed Bai and litllte Wu) a few weeks ago. They are sitting right next to my computer. So thanks again for the adoption program to help the Pandas and other animals at the SDZ. The best zoo ever. Thanks for the Panda Cam too. It has been so fun and interesting watching Bai and Mr Wu. They make my day.
Moderator’s note: Many thanks, Kathy, for adopting our cubbie!
Our little guy is sure sleeping. Must have had a long day. He is sooo cute even when he is sleeping.
You are welcome. I really want to come and see Wu soon. My daughter-n-law is running in a marathon in June in San Diego.. So I hopefully will be coming out to cheer her on and come and see My favorite Panda Cubbie.
Oh My Goodness….Mr. Wu has been doing some special growing. I was watching him on the garden room cam when he discovered he now has four whole feetsies, and they are so big he cannot get them all in his mouth at once…..not that he did not try for a while, but the feetsies won this round. If they get much bigger he might have to keep some in Big Brother’s Yun Zi’s house. I guess he would go there to visit them and give them a good chewing……..love grammmie
This sound so fun. I missed it, I hope DoxieMom will help.
Can you also get the t-shirt for an extra charge?
Moderator’s note: The T-shirts for this get-together were made by the planners and are sold out. Sorry!
Moderator: I would also like to know how I can purchase a t-shirt, thank you!
Moderator’s note: I’m told the T-shirts for this get-together are sold out. Sorry!
Too bad they are sold out… any T-shirts in the Panda Shop for sale with Liwu’s picture on it
? I will purchase for sure… and gifts for others, too
…

I just discovered explore.org’s panda toddler cam. Oh my goodness! Several panda babies in the same enclosure. So incredibly cute! It’s nice to be able to get a panda fix when it’s nighttime in San Diego!!
Bless your heart for sharing.. Thanks! This is panda heaven
Just watching now at the explore.org panda toddler cam at 8:28 PST. It is nice to watch many panda cubbies! Best time to watch here is 4pm – 12am PST..
So Grammie, if you have trouble sleeping, you might get entertained with this to relax you and help you go back and get your ZZzzzzs.
Thanks again Julie for sharing the link! The cubbies are so cute, though it says they are not named..
Dear SDZ,
Does the Adoption Package come with Xiao Li Wu or Yun Zi? How much more will I have to pay if I want them sent to my home? Just Kidding!!!
Can an overseas fan buy an adoption package?
Peace,
Lucilla
Moderator’s note: Yes indeed!
I have adoption picture with Yunzi already from before and love it very much.. Just wanted to clarify with you if this the adoption will have Liwu’s picture.. I do not think the question was answered. Thanks in advance
Moderator’s note: According to the blog post, yes.
Lil & Bill,
We were assured by the adoption team that the downloadable photo is Xiao Liwu!!

Hello!
I was hoping I could ask a little question about Bai Yun when she’s feeding “Mr. Wu”?
We’ve been watching Bai Yun feeding little Liwu on her balcony in the evenings. Thank you so much for showing this adorable bonding btw. the two! But, my family and I have noticed, since sometime last week, that whenever Liwu goes to drink on Bai’s top left side, she pushes him away. He ends up going back and alternating between the others. We’ve been watching and so far its been happening every time. Is that a sensitive area for Bai, lately? We thought maybe Bai is a clogged in that breast? Or Liwu had bitten down, while milking and perhaps Bai has a small cut or sore there? We don’t remember her ever pushing Liwu away from this area, back in the den. Just wondering.
Thanks again for all the great camera work both in the outdoor and indoor areas! Bai and Liwu are an absolute joy to watch!
Panda Team responds: This is a great observation; she might be sensitive in that area with Mr. Wu nursing. As keepers, we will look closely at this area, as Bai Yun is trained to lay down in a special crate called a squeeze crate, which allows us to look at the area closely to see if we notice anything different. Thank you for your observation.
You know I was beginning to observe the same thing, but had not put it together enough to ask about it, but it made me wonder…….how does he know to eat from all four, surely he cannot count? Does he recheck each one to see if he has emptied it? He does not seem to use a linear way of keeping track of the four, so how does he know where and when to start, stop, and the movements in between? Thank you…..love grammmie
I noticed the same thing about Baby Liwu when he wants to nurse on that side up….facing Bai Yun , it would be on the left side…However, if you are looking at Bai yun’s body, I noticed her right side…. I’m glad it will be observed by the Panda Team……
Hello to all the Panda Team!
Wow! Thank you so much for responding to our observations! We had no idea it may lead to the staff checking up on “our girl” to see if there’s anything bothering her. I’m so glad we were able to spot it! It’s sad to think she may be experiencing some kind of discomfort. We pray all is well with Bai and that Mr. Wu can get back to having a full belly from all of Mommy’s “milk bottles”.
If it’s possible, could you maybe post an update just to let us know what might have been happening, please?
Thanks again for reading and answering our post and for all the care and love you give to Bai, Gao, Yun Zi and Mr. Wu!
Xiao Li u stood on top of the chair and he reached for a packet of flour. He was a little short and had to stretch on tippy toes. Just as he grabbed the packet, he lost his balance and fell. The packet burst and he was soon a polar bear.
Mama ran into the kitchen and picked Wu Wu up to check he was OK. SHe looked so worried. When she saw he was OK, the worried look soon turned into a darker one.
‘WHAT were you trying to do?’ growled Bai Yun.
‘Mama, I wanted to make pancawks for you and Papa. I’m sorry. Booo hooo hooo!’ and large tears rolled down Wu Wu’s cheeks. Yunior ran in as he heard the bang. Yunnie patted his brother’s head.
Bai Yun hugged her darling son. SHe rinsed him under the tap while she put Yunior to cleaning the kitchen floor. Then she tied a tea towel around Wu Wu and put on her apron.
She got her large mixing bowl and together with her two sons, she made a heap of pancakes for breakfast.
Wu Wu tried tossing a pancake with all his might. HIs aim was not true and the pancake ended on Yunnie’s face! It was not wasted however. By the time Gao Gao returned from the store, the table was laid with honey, jam and butter.
‘Well, well, who made such delicious pandacakes?’
‘Papa, they are pancakes!’ giggled Wu Wu.
‘Really? They look like pandacakes to me cos they are made by pandas!’
‘Your son, the little one, made the pandacakes,’ laughed Bai Yun as she brought in some milk for her sons and mugs of boo tea for herself and Gao.
‘What a clever boy! You are going to be a chef one day!’ chuckled Gao Gao as he patted his son.
‘Mama made them! I only helped stir the mixture.’
‘And you did it so well, Wu Wu, Mama is so proud with you. Yunnie never did it when he was your age!’ cooed Bai.
‘Hey hey, who chased me out of the kitchen when I was his age?’ demands Yunnie affecting a hurt look, ‘And has Mama forgetten the time I made her some cup cakes?’
Bai Yun sat down ith a big smile, ‘Of course I do. Best cup cakes I ever had because my son made them.’ And that made Yunnie blush as Wu Wu happily scooped loads of honey onto his pancakes, sorry, pandacakes.
With a pair of perfect ears they would, in deed, be PandaCakes. I loved it when Yunior ende up with a “cake in the face” I sure had my giggle of the day………Love grammmie
How much does Wu weigh now? He definitely looks bigger and much stronger.
Has Mr. Wu been working out with big brother Yun Zi?
Watched some video of LunLun and Po. Love the chip ground covering in their exhibit, looks so soft to fall on. What is it and can SDZ get it for our Pandas instead of the hard ground. It would keep our pandas much cleaner also.
Hi Deb. saw dr. And on feet more-photo soon, didn’t forget. How about that Mr. Wu, is he not getting cuter all the time??? If he keeps getting cuter we are going to need to put a bag over his head so somebody doesn’t try to steal him. We all would understand why they tried that it would be hard to get a conviction! I sure hope he stays on the small size….not only a tribute to his daddy and Grandmother Dong Dong but because if you are going to be the cutest you might as well be the smallest…Pandas come in all sizes, and he is his size……love grammmie
7:48 AM….I can’t watch!! Mr. Wu is VERY high and it’s scary.
That’s such a wonderful offer for those that cannot attend Panda-Monium 2013.

It the ltitle guy trying to give me a heart attack, hanging upside down on the highest branch, yikes
He takes after his two sisters! Yunnie liked the garden and the flowers.
It is 9:24 on Tuesday morning and there is noooo way that baby looks comfortable enough to take a nap in the position he is in:) How wonderful to be able to sleep like that.
Baby Wu Wu spends a lot of time at the top of his structures looking over the walls, the buildings, his area. Does he see other animals or people or cars or kids? He spends time like Yunnie does when he looks over GAo’s habitat. He used to anyway and he he visitedmus frommthere when we were there and had goen to see Gao who was sleeping.Yunnie was peeping at us through the trees. So cute!! And we saw at the same time Rita Pepita and we all walked back to the monitors area together. He heard us talking and came to see I think because he knew GaoGAo was sleeping. He is loved so much by us.
What a fine time you must have had, Virginia. To get to see both of the little boy Pandas, and Rita Petita too…….a lucky day. I hear that Yunnie loves his Auntie Weeta very much, as does the whole family, but he has a special love for her, and poses for many lovely photos. His big sisters ZZ and Su Lin were very special to her too, when she went to visit in China she got to see most of our San Diego panda babies, she and ZZ had a wonderful time together– we think ZZ remembered her many San Diego visits…love grammmie
I agree Grammie. I* am positive she did and she wanted to come back “home” too. She was sad when they put her back in her yard. She looked and looked for Rita again.
9:56….holy smokes: he’s sleeping away, curled up in the fork of a branch, and there is no way that he can be comfortable. My daughter is right…he’s really a bean bag! lol
LOL
He sleeping in the tree who can he sleep that way?He not afaid anymore he got brave.
It looks like Liwu won the continuing battle of the platform over Mommy Bai…at least for today. At least, I didn’t see Bai’s big fluffy derriere anywhere nearby!
BAI: “Are you saying I’m FAT?”
Yes Bai, you are fat!
Let us just say that Bai is beautifully endowed in the right places
!!! She is just lovely!
And who ever heard of fat ears???
One of the nicest things about being a non human animal is that they do not judge us by appearance, and they do not judge themselves either. Bai just happens to have the prettiest ears on this planet (unless there are some in the wild we do not know about), and between Gao and she they have been making the cutest babies…..but then how could there be a “not cute” Panda Baby. Love grammmie
Do baby and mama vocalize to each other at all?
Moderator’s note: A little bit.
I love the way Bai just walked over her little boy to get back to the hammock!
He has a string or some kind of tie in his mouth that he pulled off of his pillow – will he choke on it???????????????????
Moderator’s note: Our Panda Team will check to make sure all is well. Thank you.
Why did the keepers put Mama Bai inside at 12:15 SD time? It looked like they were calling her to come inside. Of course Mr. Wu then took her place on the little platform.
I would bet dollars to donuts that it was time to clean the enclosure and put out fresh bamboo for the afternoon. The enclosures are cleaned three times a day, and since the bamboo is fresh cut, but not growing in the ground, the NannyKeepers cannot just put it out once a day, their health gets maintained by food freshness……love grammmie
That boy is just the cutest bear in the world. Just saw him chomping on his little feetsies, rolling around and I swear, smiling. But saw him sleeping, wrapped around his slender, high branch earlier, and he looked such a relaxed, confident little thing. Happy little chap, he’s gorgeous. Cannot WAIT to see him ‘in the fur’. Nine more sleeps! ICan you count, LiWu? Nine more sleeps till you smile and wave for Auntie Cara. Xx
PS. Empress Bai – Tian Tian in Edinburgh asks me to bring home detailed instructions for the girl steps for Salsa…. Can you write them down for me?
Be sure to get the “Tail up” instructions too……that is the most important part of her dance. Lady McBear needs to know that for a couple of days she will actually like Lord McBear, and find herself doing some crazy things that she doesn’t even think about the rest of the year. Bai was embarrassed the first few times this happened to her, Shi Shi was not interested in the least, but then along came Gao and she began to understand and enjoy this brief time. She was willing to do this every year, but she was busy with cubbies every time they danced just right!!!
When does the baby stop nursing and start eating bamboo?
Moderator’s note: Panda cubs start mouthing bamboo at 7 to 9 months of age but generally continue to nurse until they are 17 to 18 months old.
A big thank you to SDZ and our fabulous committe who work so hard on the Panda Convention. Both work so hard, and we get to benefit from it! Thank you again.
Aww, thank you Linda!! It is nice to be appreciated. As you know it is a labor of love ~ mostly! LOL
Just saw Bai Yun sit on the hammock straight up with her arms holding up high on the trees and her head and nose up high to smell the air. Just beautiful!
Doxie Mom should have some GREAT videos from today. Every single time I was able to peak in from work I saw funny things. I was laughing so hard (inside) and now I see he is playing with her feet while she tries to eat. He is so determined! Earlier – I SO hope you got this Doxie – he tried to sit next to her on the rocks of the pond and she back sided him into the pond! You should have seen his little face! So he exits the pond as fast as he can only to tumble down the moat! And then, sure as heck, he went right back up there to sit with her again. He is TOO FUNNY!!!!
Doxiemom, did you happen to catch any video of Gao Gao in his pool. I would love to see him enjoying hiw water.
Debbie, I don’t have any recent footage, but here is what I captured in January of last year in the Main Exhibit:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/pandalover19/6714837207/
…and in March of last year after an encounter with Bai Yun, I captured this footage of Gao Gao enjoying the pool in the Keebler Exhibit:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/pandalover19/6841437774/
Enjoy!!
Awe, Doxiemom, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you looking for these for me. I have never had the pleasure of seeing Gao in his pool. He is such a sweetheart, and all I did was ooh and awwww while watching it. I love him so! Thank you!
Well I must say thank you to both you, Deb, and D-Mom, I did not realize I had not ever watched Gao swimming. He may not have his Yunz’s surfing moves, and he isn’t looking like his youngest, just yet, but he has his own look, and is adorable…..love grammmie.
Mom Bai is on the platform taking a nap.
Where is Baby Li Wu Wu?
Jenny, I did get some great footage from today, including the scene in the pool:

2013-03-05 Xiao Liwu: “Pillow Fight!”

I wasn’t going to do any videos today, but Xiao Liwu was just too funny to not share
Still have footage for one more … will post tomorrow (Wednesday).
Looked like he was drying himself off on mom
Thanks so much! They were just too cute for words!! (But then, so is he)
Video two…..who would have thought that there is such a thing as a pillow fight for one?
As for video one…..I think it might give the folks the idea that there are sometimes two color phases for Pandas……black and white, for one and beige and black for the other. That is how it looks in the sunshine of California
thanks for the videos. I was wondering why Xiao Li Wu’s fur looked wet. I saw him shortly after he fell into the pool. he was laying down a bit on the rocks surrounding the pool and standing up against Bai’s head, but he was looking a little more tentative than usual.
Thanks for the videos! This little guy is just hilarious to watch! I don’t know who won the pillow fight… Him or the pillow??? Were the previous baby pandas this rambunctious ?
?Garden Room in camera’s site line now – square hole open w/long pole sticking up… didn’t see any keepers around – danger zone!!!!
I am sure you saw a control used to empty and refill the pond and/or drinkers. Usually the cover is on and the”pole” out of sight unless the NannyKeepers are working on the exhibit. I bet it was left there for a bit because the NannyKeepers were settling the bears indoors for he night, so there was time to get back to it. You never see the “box” open except when the bears are not present, so there is no danger to them. The exception, of course, is when one of the bears removes the cover….love grammmie
Doxiemom – love all your videos, I could watch them for hours. Little Wu had me nervous also the way he was sleeping this morning. He seemed to be hanging on by one foot at one point. I kept peeking in to see that he was ok and did not fall. Thank you so much SDZ for all your info, there is nothing I would love more than to some day get out there and see all the bears and other animals, long trip from Pittsburgh! If I hit the lottery it is my first stop! It is funny how Bai shoves him around and he comes back for more! Adorable. She is the best looking mom ever and I think she has a great figure for a bear!
I have the pandacam on all day at work and somehow I missed the announcement for Pandamonium 2013. Is there a list where we can add our names for next year?
Looking at Bai sleeping comfortably in her tree. She looks just like a stuffed animal. Her ears are so perfectly round she almost looks fake lol
I’ve been watching lovely Ms. Bai ths morning, munching her boo and now, draped in the tree for her morning nap. Where’s the little guy this morning?
Debbie, I heard we had another baby takin born on Saturday (a little girl this time!) Do you know if she is out for viewing yet (and who mom and dad are?)
Moderator’s note: Mother is Eve, father is Lian, and she is out on exhibit.
