What's cuter than one baby takin? Two!
We recently welcomed takin Summer’s most recent baby at the San Diego Zoo’s Panda Trek (see post post, Baby Takin. Guests were in awe at the beautiful little female she gave birth to. The little one has been doing well and is getting bigger every day and more energetic. Shortly after, our other female takin, Eve, gave birth to a little male. We are thrilled, to say the least, about our luck with all of our babies so far this year! Eve is doing well, and she and her baby will be on exhibit with the rest of the herd.
As a panda narrator, I get to talk to our guests about conservation, but I can’t tell you how much fun it has been to direct people over to see our baby takins. As takins are social animals, these babies are half siblings, sharing the same father, and will grow up playing together and will be wonderful fun for our guests to watch. The father of these two babies is no longer with the herd, as he is well represented, but the male that we have with the herd right now is a very nice looking and well-behaved animal. He has been very accepting of the babies, and when these females are viable again, will be able to breed them as well.
So right now at Panda Trek we have Leon, Kai (a new female who is about 2 to 3 years old), Blondie and her youngster, Duli, Summer and her new female baby, and Eve with her new male baby. We encourage you to come visit the pandas and check out their next-door neighbors, the takins! We hope everyone has a wonderful Valentine’s Day and a safe Presidents’ Day weekend.

It is so nice to hear that both babies are doing well… I enjoyed watching Wushi and Duli grow up. Have Louie and Wushi been moved to another zoo?
That is such great news. Now to figure a time to come see them — next year, I think.

Noiw we will have 2 babies to see.Male and female. tell them we appreciate the two sexes.We can compare them as they grow!!HAHA! What a nice arrangement they have.
All we need now is one baby Polar Bear. Somehow we have to get them together!!We miss Newt.

Thank you for the baby news, Anastasia! It was a lot of fun to watch Wushi grow. Now we have two new babies. Hopefully they won’t have grown toooo much when we come to Panda Trek next month!
A new Hammock for the bears? Pretty special looking to me! Is that a second one, or a replacement? Bai yun will love that, it will fit her.
I don’t think Bai cares whether the Hammock fits or not- Just as long as she has one to sip her Fruitini in. Remember there is photographic proof that as big as she is she got into Yuniors first Baby Hammock.

Uncle Yunnie is really overjoyed! Why? I sent Hui Ling some special candy Grandma taught me to make. I wrapped each piece in a small red heart shaped box. And each box had a poem I had written for Hui Ling. I then put all in a basket trimmed with a nice bow. Actually that was Grandma’s doing. She was giggling a lot.
BUT IT WORKED! Hui Ling really really liked it. She took so many photos of it and put it on Paw Book and also on her blog. She made a very special card for me. Hee Hee, in it she draw all the things she knew I liked. And she also sent me a heart shaped cookie that was GINORMOUS. I had to share it with Papa as it was he who told me to write the poems. He says works all the time as a charm with the ladies.
It seems he wrote Grandma a poem a day and also composed songs for her. WOW, love is hard work. I need a boo break NOW. Hee Hee.
So girl, did any boy panna send you anything??? Tell Uncle OK? I will warn you there are many rascals out there. Heartbreakers! You must protect your heart and not give it away too easily.

Perhaps you could get your sisters to help give the young panda ladies advice. They have a lot of experience on how to attract a nice husband, what to do if he marries another ladie the very next day (Su Lin and Her Sister wife had babies just one day apart) and your oldest Sister has had many Babies, and like your mama always looks happy-did all of her cubs and cubbettes have the same Papa????? There are many “girl” things to be known, and the men have their “boy things” to find out. How is Princes Lin Ping doing?

Your pressie for Hui Ling sounds really awesome (that’s a new word I picked up from an American auntie)! You can write me a nice poem anytime you want to help me understand boy pandas. Man, they are so confusing.
Nah, I didn’t get a valentine from a boy panda, but that’s okay, cuz I think I’m going to wait awhile and play the field (another phrase my aunties have taught me). When I’m ready, I want to find just the right panda for my heart. But thanks for asking.

Thanks for the photos. Nice to know my Valentine’s present arrived safely. You really liked it huh? Gee, it was nothing. I learnt to do some simple baking from Mama. I think all males need some kitchen skills so that we can do stuff for our loved ones, hee hee.
WOW, I did not expect you to make a collage of my poems. I tried to write them as best as I could. *BLUSH* the subject was very loveable and great to write about but the skill of the writer needs so much work.
I liked the huge card you sent me. I did not know you are an artist. The colours were so well chosen and I loved the cute little iconic hearts hidden in the painting. Gosh, you are talented.
So are you planning to enrol in that course at the Arts Academy? School term is starting soon I hear. I told Papa I wanna be an engineer so I can build things for Pandas’ enclosures worldwide. I think as an insider I can give a unique perspective.
The nannykeepers are calling cos today there is a famous pawson coming to visit. I have to take a snackie from him and I am not allowed to bite him. Mama said she would be mortified if I did something naughty. So I need to brush my fur and trim my claws. I will send you some photos soon.

Have you heard? SDZ is opening a cafe named after your Mama!! Woo Hoo! Grandma got pretty excited and Step Grandpa was wondering how many types of bootinis they served. Grandma had to remind him that the cafe was for hoomans.
Maybe they will have a Hero sandwich named after Grandma and your Mama?? I hope they name a dish after me, maybe a sundae with lots of nuts and fruit!!!
Wow wouldn’t it be nice if your Mama could come back for the Opening and the Panda Grrrls could perform a couple of numbers? We will make front page of the International Panda Tribune, Vanity Fur, Harper’s Bearzza, The Daily Panda, The Times of Panda and also Newsbear magazine. Woo Hoo, pandas will be famous.

Yes, I met some nice panda girls when I visited Su Lin after she had her bao bei. Also there is a nice pawpal called Hui Ling. She was Ms Panda Universe 2008. She and I are very good friends now. I hope she can come and visit me. She is an ambassador for Pandas. She represents us at the United Nations and fights for Panda rights. She is amazing.
Can you send me colour photos of all my nephews and neices? Hee Hee Hee. I really must visit you to ketchup. Catch up, ketchup….geddit? Hee Hee Hee.
